➢ 24 hour re-book/cancellation policy
Please let me know as soon as possible if you cannot make a lesson. Any late cancellations under 24 hours (unless a rearrangement can be made) the full lesson fee will be charged.
➢ Holidays/Studio Times
You can find term dates here: https://seahavenmusic.co.uk/term-dates
➢ Contact Hours
The space is closed on Sundays and Tuesdays. On these days, please leave a message and you’ll receive a reply the next working day.
➢ Your Data
Your personal data will never be shared and will be used only to contact you. Seahaven Music may store your details in a private Google Drive document (phone number, email, name and address if relevant). These will be used to contact you and/or help to enter examinations. Your details may be saved for 3 months after your last session if it is unclear as to whether you will return. Your personal information will always remain confidential between you and Seahaven Music. Any sharing of personal data to external bodies will require consent from the student, or responsible adult/s.
➢ Sickness, Absence & Late Attendance
If you are feeling a bit under the weather but happy to carry on - please check it is okay to attend first.
If you think you’ll be late for a lesson, you can turn up at any point within your session time. Any time is better than no time - but you will only have the remainder of your booked session time left. This could mean a change of lesson plan - but we will always make the most of it!
Continual absence may forfeit your lesson slot upon review. Birthday parties, sleepovers, etc are not a valid excuse to miss a lesson. Please make arrangements around your studies like you would school or work.
If your teacher is unable to make a lesson you can have your payment sent back to you, held until your next lesson, or the lesson can be rearranged if there is a free slot available later in the week.
Lessons may not be able to run if the weather outside is below 2°C / above 30°C as the building is currently unsuitable for extreme weather. Significant temperature changes can cause damage to instruments. Please look out for cancellation messages if the weather is extreme.
➢ Lesson Materials & Responsibilities
For each lesson you should have:
A practice diary/notebook
Your lesson books
➢ Studio Rules
Please do not come into the studio with food, dogs or open drinks to avoid damage to equipment and/or protect students with allergies. We are a no nuts zone. You are welcome to bring bottled water and drinks in flasks.
If you have handled food before your lesson, please wash your hands before you begin playing. Certain foods can erode instruments and can be costly to repair.
Sealed treats are often given to students on Halloween, Christmas, and Easter. Permission will always be sought before handing out treats but please state in advance whether you would prefer to not be included.
If learning piano/guitar - please ensure you do not have stickers on your piano/guitar at home with the note names on.
➢ Assistance
Please state in advance whether yourself/the student requires additional help to deliver the best lessons possible. Some examples of additional support could be:
Larger scores/prints
Coloured paper or overlays
Dimmed lights, low music levels
Mindful language and behavioral awareness
Slow speech
Clear access to the front of the building for wheelchairs/mobility scooters
➢ Circumstances lessons will be ceased
Any needs that must be met before the student is ready for one to one tuition
If your child does not want to learn music
Theft, violence, verbally abusive behaviour or vandalism
Continual absence
Payment arrears
➢ Practice Recommendations - Try to practice OR explore music EVERY day! 4-5 days should be okay!
4 - 5 years: 5 minutes
6 - 10 Years: 10 - 15 Minutes
10 - 12 Years: 15 - 20 Minutes
13 - Adult: 20 - 30 minutes for beginners - intermediate, 1 Hour for advanced.
Any extra time practicing above this is a plus! To help motivate yourself to practice, think of it as part of your daily routine (like brushing your teeth or having breakfast). You may decide to arrange a practice session at either side of your day when you are most awake, or as soon as you come back from school/ work/daily activities. For children, reward charts and stickers work well. For adults, you may decide to create your own musical journal and get arty!
All students are encouraged to join music groups. These could include summer school, after school clubs, Saturday classes and international summer schools. If you would like more information on this, please do not hesitate to ask what is available.
➢ Concerts
Seahaven Music has two concerts a year. One in late July/early August and one in December. Please encourage yourself/your child to play and get to know our friendly community. Students have the opportunity to play in groups/bands or as a solo artist with professional musicians or other students! Concerts are recorded and photos are taken. If you wish for yourself/your child to not be included in videos photography which may be uploaded to our Youtube channel “Seahaven Music Studio” or website www.seahavenmusic.co.uk you will be asked near the time of the performance.
➢ Inflation/lesson fees
You’ll be notified of any changes one month in advance.
➢ Methods of Payment
Please pay the session fee before the lesson begins via Direct Debit or Standing Order.
Payment and attendance to lessons confirm that each party participating agrees to the above.
~ Thank you for your support towards our growing community. I hope you will have the best experience and education here :-) ~ Carrie
